427 stroker?
I've got a 79 trans am bandit edition that has a 396 big block Chevy in it. Whoever built that motor had good intentions but never finished it right. It has a monster cam in it, an isky 292 mega cam, but that's it. Stock replacement pistons, bone stock heads other than the stiff springs that most likely came in the cam kit. Anyways, I want to know if anybody knows of or has dropped a 454 crank in a 396 to make a 427 stroker? And how much if any machine work is needed for the block, special rods, pistons ect. I'd like to keep the cam I have because it's so aggressive and I love the way it sounds.

To use a 454 crank will be external balanced and you will need a dampner and flywheel for 454-----------the only things you can use are your rods---pistons will be different compression ht and most likely special order-----you will be better off starting with a 454 short block and sell the 396 to someone doing a numbers restoration looking for the casting number/build date stamped on it--------
