Unkown 454 Engine Suffix Code WHAT IS IT??

Picked up an old drag boat with a BB Chevy in it. Was told it was a 454 bored .30 over. The engine is stamped with the suffix TJE, but no such suffix appears on any of the forums listing the BB Chevy suffix codes. What the heck is this thing and what did it come out of?

You say "suffix" but that picture looks like the "TJE" precedes some numbers, i.e. a prefix, and I don't find a TJE listing on BBC's either.

Welcome to the forum, BTW. Maybe one of the bowtie guys will jump in and have a better answer for you.

The position of those letters appear to have been added after the factory numbers maybe by the people who did the engine build

If it is an original GM marine engine, you won't find them in a car book. The engine codes for boats are a separate listing, might want to check with someone at a Mercruiser dealer, their books used to carry a lot of engine information---next thought would be to see what brand of jet pump is on the boat, check their books, or, go back to the original manufacturer of the boat and see what the have for engine ID listings.
