chev 292 6cyl engine number info needed
hi all . i got a chev 292 6cyl engine. with engine casting number 2779888 and under them numbers is GM2. i cant find any info on the engine number as to when the engine was made and what was its out of. it does have a marine manifold. did chev make the 292 for marine work if so did they use a engine number just for marine engines. i cant find any engine numbers that match this engine. thanks john

If I wanted to use it in an automotive application, I'd choose parts for any Chevy 292 pickup truck from 1962 to the mid-eighties. Any truck boneyard should have piles of these motors unless scrap prices have sent them to the fiery caldrons.
