Muncie Rebuild
My friend has what I believe to be an M-21 4 speed, it has a 10 spline input, but it has a bad 2nd gear synchro. It grinds badly on every shift into second gear. Anyways, I would like to know if this is something I can do with basic tools or should I take it to a pro? I am not affraid of transmissions, I have rebuilt a motorcycle transmission that a local dealer had broken twice before.

muncie 's are very simple . things to look for are obviously any broken gears, bad bearings (pitted or excessive play),the teeth on all the gears that your syncro assemblies interlock to .a diamond shape is perfect , a used unit will tend to be worn down
dont overlook all the slides dogs, and blocker rings(syncronizers)another thing about muncies is the case where the countershaft rides tend to wear , check for side to side slop and egg shaping."IT'S 106 MILES TO CHICAGO , WE GOT A FULL TANK OF GAS , HALF A PACK OF CIGARETTES, ITS DARK, AND WERE WEARING SUNGLASSES"
