Just want to get some idea what you think of adding Lucas oil? Can't make up my mind if it is a good thing or bad? Kel

What do you think is wrong with the Castrol that it's necessary for you to add the Lucas?

AMSOIL is the best . It is teh best performing and with an AMSOIL filter yo ucan go 15000mi between oil changes . Just change the filter every 6 months or 6000mi to be safe.
The iol can only be bought through a distributer and check out their website . ( AMSOIL.com) I am not a distributer so I'm not BSing you . Research it for yourself , You will be plaesed . The cost is about the same as Royal Purple but is much better . I have used it in My cars for the last 5 years The Racing oil is great for Cars with Built engines.

I don't like oil additives. My personal preferance is Mobil Synthetic race oil. Used it in a few motors, never had any troubles.

Never really had any problems with Castrol. I bought this '69 Firebird with the 305( would not be my first choice, but that's what it came with), and not sure whats it's been through. Saw where Lucas was supposed to help "older" motors. A guy at work who has worked on cars, built race cars"all his life", swears by Lucas. Told me that putting 1 qt lucas with the Castrol was "perfect". Like Don Henley said " the more I know, the less I understand.) Kelly

Castrol had to pass a number of stringent tests (stipulated by an independent source) to qualify for the API performance rating on the side of the can. What kind of automotive, independent tests does Lucas qualify to? Or are they like most snake oils and hang their hat on testimonials such as "a guy at work..........swears by it", or "tests" that they make up that amazingly make their product look good?

My friend tried to go 8,000 on an oil change in a POS '88 Cavalier he paid 100 bucks for, at about 7,800 it set up like a rock. I have heard good about AMS and Lucas but I would change oil at 3k -6k.

Oils arent as major a factor now as they were "Back in the day". Used to be that certain oils had different proceses that made them better. Came from different locations, used different detergents ect. Now it seems that almost ANY oil will do the job. Personally, ive had good luck with mobil and a bottle of slick 50. Never had any complaints, and they seem to keep good lubrication. But as for crossing oils, how much does 1 quart out of 5 really make? the "advantages" are already dilluted in the quart, and then you dillute them with the other 5 quarts? Sounds like better chance for issues than advantages.

i'll have to say yeppppp that sounds like a long time, but then a agin i had a buddy back in the early 80's buy a new ford p/u & he NEVER, i repeat NEVER changed the oil. all he did was change the oil filter & add oil when it was needed. and believe it or not when he got rid of the truck it had well over 150,000 on it....... cause oil never really breaks down in a motor it just become contaminated from the burning of fossil fuels.... look at cars or trucks ran on LP gas, you almost dont have to change thier oil but a few times in a 100,000 because they burn so damn clean......joe

I'm not saying to go 15000mi between oil changes or filter changes. But Amsoil is proven to last that long . Until I bought it I used to change my oil every 2000 - 2500 miles on all of my new cars . The manuals in todays cars say you can go from 6000 to 75000 miles between changes. Since I changed to Amsoil I go 6000mi between oil changes. I have friends that are licensed mechanics and they confirmed that the oil does last longer than Mobil 1 and other synthetic oils.

Look up Amsiol and check it ouf first .
Again , I don't work for the company or sell th eproduct , Just trying to help

Personaly I have noticed that adding a quart of duralube will let your engine rev faster and give you better gas milage. I have had this result in my 350 and in my 318 both. I think oil additives is all about who has the better looking product because they all are about the same.

Duralube you bet I run it in all my cars. I used it in a 283 that was really tired probely at most would of lasted two or maybe three months be for going to the great engine god In the sky . Or maybe because my wife drove the car but three yrs later it died. But only because she did not put antifreeze in one winter and cracked the block in the valley. That was a heck of a test for me If it could make that old 283 last that much more longer Im hooked
