I do need to get va pressure gauge hooked up, what i have done is pulled the upper end apart..............wow. The dude i bought the car from saw me a comin'. This 429 i guess in 1964 doesnt have any passage through the push rods, they are solid. The galley for the top end come through the rocker arm shaft. After i pulled the shaft i can see the problem. Pulling the hold down bolts was like pulling a rubber boot out of 2 feet of alabama mud...........it made this suction noise and was hard to pull by hand. The bolts looked like somone smeared graphite lube on them and this stuff was in all the holes of the arms and shafts. Does oil do this after time? A buddy told me they must have ran non detergent oil cause if that sits for awhile it will gum up and turn grey. I dont want to pull the engine apart so can i fill it with "Mystery oil" or part tranny fluid and flush it? My solvent tank make short work of the gum.
