i really need some advice with my 83 Cutlass Supreme. I have changed the engine this summer on my car, everything is working nicely, but after i adjusted the rocker arms and everything else, when i start the car, there is a little gas shower coming out the exhaust. What is wrong? What can I do about it?

whats a gas shower

when i start the car, until the engine gets warm and the choke is disengaged, there is a small liquid gas shower among the smoke coming out of the exaust. After the engine is warm, it stops, and burns gas properly, but untill then it spits out gas. I`m afraid to start the car on the driveway, because, i don`t want to splash the neghbours car!!I really don`t know why it`s doing this.Help, plss!!!

Are you sure it's gas or just condensation (Water)?

at first, i thought it was condensation myself, but then, i turned off the engine, and stuck my finger in the little puddle and it was gas. it smelled like gas, it looked like gas, it was gas. Any suggestions?

i doubt if your car is apitting gas out of the tail pipe. if that much raw gas was coming out of the pipe the motor wouldnt run. sounds like condensation to me. water collects in the muf. from short drives or you have a blown head gasket. if its so bad you might spash the negb. car id say its a blown head gasket or cracked head.

After going through the exhaust pipes even the condensed water will smell like gas. If it is gas it will ignite if you put a match to it. If you have raw gas coming out of the tailpipe that is some rich mixture ....... I would think it would flood if the engine it getting that much fuel.

O.K. lt1s10 now yer' scarin' me. We must have mental tell-a-puppy or maybe ESPN.

i don`t have a muffler ( no muffler and new camshafts = great sound), and it`s not a lot of gas, it`s just spitting a bit of gas out the exhaust, and since it`s side exhaust, it will spalsh my neighbours car if i`m not paying attention. Once again this little spitting thing only happens until the engine is hot. Afterwords, it burns it properly. One more thing, how long is a new cat supposed to stink so bad, because after i floor my car, and then stop at a traffic light or stp, it smells like boiled eggs.

Try putting a match to the spitting gas (or Water). my guess is it won't ignite.

BTW: What engine does it have in it?

the truth thats what it is. if hes got that much gas coming out of his tail pipe im glade im not around there. hey what you trying to do?get him killed suppose it is gas. what going to happen when he lights that match.

its not a lot of gas. any gas coming out of the tail pipe is a lot of gas. i think if you put your hand over the taik pipe, if its water it will beadup on your hand and gas wont, but pro is right about the smell.

some of the mid. 80 cars the cats. smelled like that from the factory. it may not go away. were joking with you a little about the gas, but if youve got raw gas coming out of your pipes i dont belive it would just go away untill next time.
