Is It Feasable
ok did the top end, set the rods and lifters on a 305..... now it all set up just sweetly and ran fine afterward about a week ago im driving home from work at about 3:15AM..(joys of night shift).....i turn the corner and give her a little propane and it sounds like a popcorn popper...opened it up when the sun finally made and appearance and found a broken rod on the #2 cylinder..ok i fix it, set it wow whered all that x-tra power come from nice i like it....
ok tonight it happens again i have been hearing a tic-tic since i left for work tonight and shut her off there and left her came to the conclusion that i had to adjust it again....thought take er slow on the way home and check it again in the morning and see if it's the same rod, start it drive turn the corner and what starts happening pop pop pop all the way home a 10 miles an hour...thank god it's a small town and i work about ten blocks away so you can do that here without getting into to much trouble. The first time it happened i thought i had over adjusted the rocker arm and thats why the rod was broke when i pulled her tappet cover off last week..so why all of a sudden it starts again. Now i know rocker arm studs can wear out just like anything else..
MY QUESTION IS CAN A GUY DO A QUICK FIX WITH A WASHER BETWEEN THE STUD NUT AND ROCKER BALL TO LIFT THE NUT TO THREADS THAT ARE NOT SO WORE OUT OR SHOULD I JUST TEAR THE HEADS OFF AND HAVE THEM REBUILT WITH NEW STUDS PUT IN THEM, KEEP IN MIND WHEN I DID THE TOP END THE HEADS GOT NEW SPRINGS SEATS AND SEALS AND LOCKS.WHEN I GO AND THE DEVIL WANTS HIS DUE!!!! I'M GONNA JUST SAY THIS
I'LL RACE YOU FOR IT !!!HEHE

I wouldnt reccomend it. Looking at your stepsides year, chances are that those are Hydraulic lifters and are self-adjusting. If you want to lock in that bolt, try a LITTLE lock-tite on the threads. Also works wonders on Ford starters.Right engine, Wrong Wheels

so upon opening the old girl up i came to the basic conclusion well thats just not gonna work seeing as i put a new rod in her, i mean come now it's just a 305 on propane so really just keep it running right.load a spare rod in and set it again and watch it run before putting the cover back on and
(HOLY CRAP DID I JUST SEE THAT OR ARE MY EYES NEEDIN TO BE CHECKED, THE ROCKER ARM AS IT WAS LIFTING UP TO RESET ITSELF WAS SLIDING SIDEWAYS AND BENDING THE ROD)... SHUT THE TRUCK OFF CURSE AT THIS POINT I THINK I INVENTED A WORD OR TWO, AND BACK THE ROCKER ARM OFF TO FIND THAT THE SIDE OF THE VALVE LOOKS LIKE IT HAD BEEN POUNDED ON BY A HAMMER AND I'M LEFT THINKING WELL NO WONDER I HAVE PUT RODS IN TWICE IN A SEVEN DAY PERIOD)
CANT WAIT TO GET THE STROCKER PUT TOGETHER!!!HEHEHE
AGAIN THANKS GUY'S THOUGHT I WOULD ASK ABOUT IT EITHER WAY BEFORE MAKING A CRITICAL OOPPPPS..:Last edited by chevythunder; 10-16-2004 at 05:10 AM.
