I am pretty sure it is an early 70s model.
Did you say that would be better?

'70 Camaros came with 307's and if the numbers say that's what it is, it might be the original motor. From the numbers you should be able to tell what year it is. As CFS said you could build it as a torque motor, or follow other suggestions and spend the money on a 350.
PatOf course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

HEy I got a 307 in my 1986 Cutlass Salon and let me tell you if you have a light body that hog will scoot. mine will hit 110 in a quater mile completely stockBrad
If It runs like a deer it's to slow.
Going slow is just a crutch for the people who can't deal with real power.
If it ain't classic or Chevy it's junk.

Howdy all;
I've got an engine that I took out of my old 68 chevy Impala before it went to the great beyond. What I need to do is verify the engine #s to make sure that it is what I believe it to be, which is a 307. Were on the web can I look up engine #'s for GM engines?Always learning, and wrenching on the older

What year was your 307? Remember, there are two incarnations of the V8 307. The old school chebby 307 made from a 283 crank and a 327 block(right?) and the 80s 307 Olds. The Oldsmobile motor Does Not respond well to the traditional rules of SBC mods. You sure thats not the motor you had?

It is the old incarnation, with the 283 block and the 327 crank, according to the numbers on the engine for 1968.
Thank for posting the classic truck restoration web site, I was able to track down the spec's on this engine also.

U said there was some work done to the engine?could be 327 c.i. but a 305 or 307 block ,what work was done to the engine ?and does it run ?if u tear it apart check all the numbers u can find ,kinda like treasure hunt fer whats been done it might already be a screamer and whats junk about the 305 ?other than its not a 454?some balancing and mild head work a intake, carb, cam and headers it will pull nice around 5500 rpms slap a stick behind it and u got a runner.screw in rocker studs a girdle and some main support and u can wind the thing up like a 4 cylIts gunna take longer than u thought and its gunna cost more too(plan ahead!)

I am positive the block is 307 but it has been sitting a while.
It was in a 70 camaro someone started on and didnt finish.
I noticed someones ss# stamped on the block and it has been painted .
I had to fill the block up with oil to loosen the crank but it freed up real nice. Now I got to put new plugs and distributor to se if I can get it to fire.
If not, I will take it apart like you said.
Right now I am In the process of installing a front suspension which I found a pretty intersting way I think to do it. I will post later and let you know how it turns out.
I figure I have this winter to finish suspension, motor and new wiring.
Thanks for replys

Hey streets, I object! It is possible to get a 307 Olds to do 110. Not in stock form, and definatly not in the 1/4 mile, but its doable. Give this a lookhttp://www.mondellotwister.com/ArtGiantK.htmRight engine, Wrong Wheels
Getting closer on this project. What a lot of work!
