To repair a spun bearing, you will need to remove the oil pan. In some cars you can do it with the motor in the car and in others you will need to pull it out. If you did spin a bearing, it is probably a rod bearing and you will need to assess the damage to determine what needs to be done to fix it. In general terms you will need to replace the damaged bearing and probably will need to have the crank journal "turned". That means they will machine metal off the journal down past the damage. Then you will need to put a thicker bearing in to make up for the lost metal. This is not a big deal and is done fairly often. Not meaning it is not a lot of work, just that it is not the end of the world, or your motor. Generally if you are going to do one bearing you should do them all. One more thing, if the connecting rods are not damaged, then you can repair it without pulling the top of the motor apart, if the connecting rod is damaged, then you will need to pull the head(s) and piston(s).
Before you dig too far into this thing you need to find out for sure what really happened. Get a qualified mechanic to help you diagnose the knocking sound and to figure out if it is really a bearing problem. How did it happen, did you over rev the motor? Did it run low on oil? What was going on when the knock started?
Hope that helps

Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

well to tell you the truth, i dunno why it started doing it, one day i noticed a lil loss of power and it just kept losing power..soi stopped driving it.. then a couple months later i started it up and i payed attention to the oil gauge and i saw it doin that, then i listened real carfully to my motor and when it warmed up i heard the clunk sounds like its in the middle of the motor on the bottom...

#3 or #4 rod bearing. Probably what happened is your bearing started to go, puhing the worn piston out of alignment, causing a compresson drop. Then the bearing goes a bit more, ect. You should definatly get it fixed. Some motors drive for hundreds of miles with knocks, but their unsavable when they stop. Not Worth The RiskRight engine, Wrong Wheels

I just fixed this same problem, but the bearing didn't get to spin yet.
The DUNGA DUNGA was my #6 rod bearing. the heck of it was, it wasn't just the #6 rod bearing that had too much wear. It was every bearing except the cam bearings. They all had to be replaced. It was well worth it, to me, to tear the engine down and make sure of the extent of the damage. Now I should have no unpleasant surprises.
One thing you should do if you do tear it down is Plastigauge your bearings. Simple process, it tells you your bearing tolerance. Kits are cheap for plastigauge
next, after you fix the bearing, is determine why it failed....Buick newbie since 1989
