The best way to get good gas mileage out of any car is to keep it in tune, run clean fuel with no water(if you can find it), dont rabbit-start coming off from stops and always use overdrive on the freeway. As for the 8-6-4 caddilac systems, they sucked. The only good way to make those motors work is to convert them over to a traditional valvetrain. But as for the modern cylinder deactivation, doesnt it seem that your wasting a lot of energy moving the pistons on the deactivated cylinders. What(hypotheticly speaking) if you went with a W style engine a-la volkswagon. then, instead of shutting down just the valves, you actually freed up the cranks using a design similar to a full floating axle assembly or a hydraulic design. Then, instead of 4 active cylinders and 8 moving pistons you would have 4 active cylinders and 4 cylinders on standby. Is it Doable?Right engine, Wrong Wheels

Peace,
if you have a hot rod or classic why worry about gas mileage. you should have know with a hot rod or original motor you will get bad gas mileage. if you cant afford gas for a auto they why the hell do you have it? unless you plan on going solar power gas price is usualy last on thie list of a classic. and if you got it to drive it high gas prices wont really matter becasuse you will already being paying hand over fist for gas!All We Are Saying is Give Peace A Chance

57hips, I am getting used to the idea of arbitrary mileage, but I hope the combination of a low first gear and an OD fourth gear will get me over 20 mpg with a 3.55 rear and a mild SBC 350. I am just glad to get back to the forum after spending about 12 hours fooling around with anti-spyware programs and tried four different ones and managed to lose all my favorite links to parts suppliers. Well at least I can log on again and I learned a lot I didn't really want to know about my computer.
