305 Bogging Down
Last night while driving home from work, I noticed that when I punched the throttle to get on the highway...The engine bogged way down. When I let off the throttle some, it took off. When I jumped on it again... It bogged Down again. Is this too much much Fuel being dumped into the carb? Is this a timing issue?
Thanks:

1406 Eddy w/ 2101 Eddy Intake. It didn't do it as bad today. I shot the carb w/ WD-40 on all the linkages & even down in the carb last night. Today is the 1st time the secondaries actually kicked in & wow... It got up & moved! The 1406 is sitting on a Chevy 305 in an 85 S-10 backed by a 700R4 tranny. I'm going to get a Vacuum Gauge & Timing Light this weekend to Truly tune it up! I have it a little Retarded due to Detonation Problems. But...It still Bogged down a little. I assume this is because of to much fuel. I thought about backing the 2 mixture screws to achieve this.

you didn't say if you have a spacer plate under the carb. some intakes have to have one or the carb won't open or perform properly. just a thoughtWRENCHD

Bogging is too much air, or not enough fuel. The adjusting screws won't change it, they're for idle mix. It could be retarded timing, or you need bigger secondary jets.

yup you're leaning out is the problem, you either need to advance your timing and use higher octane fuel, or jet up a little bit, i'd say 1 size up should do it if its not bogging real hard all the time....just because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day
Thanks guys! One more trip around the sun completed. Lots of blessings and things to be thankful for (like still being able to type this message!!) Here's to us "over 70 guys.." Glenn
