Valve float on BBC
Is it possible on my BBC that the valves are more likely to float when the engine gets warmer. I had a mud drag this weekend and everything worked fine except for the last race. The motor got up to about 230 degrees and I took off it was good then it started popping out the exhaust. I have had this problem before and I changed carburators and it seemed to do the trick. Now this one race confuses me. Cost me the race too. I have no idea how many miles are on this motor but it does have a new cam and lifters in it. So i was thinking the valve springs are getting weaker as they get warmer.

The temp shouldn't matter, a weak spring is a weak spring. Sure you didn't break one?

You mentioned the motor has a new cam, is it the first run with the new cam? If so, are the springs that are installed the correct ones for the cam? Good luck.

The cam has about 8 races on it. I haven't ran it since that last race to see how it run. I'll have to wait until this weekend. I'll keep you guys posted next week.
You're welcome Mike, glad it worked out for you. Roger, it's taken a few years but my inventory of excess parts has shrunk a fair bit from 1 1/2 garage stalls to about an eight by eight space. ...
