a few issues all at once.
First off I was having problems seeing oil on my dipstick so I put a butt load in and now I have way to much oil. Around the same time I started seeing quite a bit of steam coming out of the breathers and have lost all oil pressure.
other than adding alot of oil the only things I have done is change spark plugs and play with the carb, fuel/air and idle.
Also, does anyone know of any good tools, write ups for carb tuning?? I have an edelbrock performer if that helps.

Sounds to me as if you prolly blew a head gasket, or broke somethin' big time. Why'd ya' put a "butt load" of oil in it? A quart or two would do for checking.

Alrite, I drained the oil and have the propper amount now. THe engine starts up at just below 30 lbs of pressure for the oil. The oil pressure starts to drop as it warms up and eventually drops off to slightly above none.
I am getting steam or smoke out of the passenger side valve cover breather and a little chatter in the upper rpms on the same side.
Also I checked vacum and it is running at 15 when warm on idle.Last edited by nystreetscene; 01-01-2006 at 05:31 PM.

Awww man, I had a legit question, sure it may seem dumb for people who know what they are doing and apparently I could have done a better job describing the situation but the ragging really isnt helpfull.
Erik, my oil is milkshake free and from peering in the radiator filler the coolant is clean as well. I had some coolant leak out of the hose that hooks up to the thermostat housing and that was clean too. Should I pull the thermostat housing to double check??

sometimes a blown headgasket wont show up milky in oil right away, let the engine warm up to operating temp and watch both the guages and the engine to see if its leeking anything or trying to overheat.
the chattering could be the valves . have you abused this car?
if you had to add a butt load of oil to get it to read on the dipstick, makes me wonder why it was that low on oil that it took more than 2 quarts to fill it up. never let an engine get below 1qt of oil, you will starve the cam and valve components, and if this engine is a 1st gen small block chavy engine you could have also damaged the piston wristpins on numbers 3 and 4 cylinder. in my experiences with bad oiling on these engines the 3,4 cylinders are the first to start to rattle. but mostly the number 3.
pray and hope this isnt the case with you. or the engine will need a rebuild.
ever read the warning that is stamped on the dip stick?
Thank you Roger. .
