    Tuning

Start the engine, set the timing by disconnecting the vacuum advance, while using a dial type timing gun, set it to 34 degrees, then rev the motor slowly to about 3000 rpm and set the timing which will now read on the zero mark of the balancer and tab. You do not want more timing than that.

If you want to set the timing at idle, the timing should be around 6 degrees depending on the amount of timing which is built into the the distributor. In either case, you should still check the timing at 3000 rpm.

The carb is another issue, do you have a holley?
Objects in my rear view mirror are a good thing unless,.... they have red and blue lights flashing.
