    Timing question

Hi everyone. Some of you may remember i posted a thread a while back concerning my distributor suddenly going 55 degrees out. Well, i feel like a dumb ass cause i took it out of the box again yesterday and it turns out the problem WAS something moving internally! The part that the rotor fastens to is moving on the shaft. I figure a couple small spot welds will fix the problem but here's my question:

Does the magnetic pickup need to be aligned with the rotor in any way? It seems to me that the rotor tip should line up with one of the 'blades' on the mag pick up...

Ok, hopefully this all makes sense.. Thanks very much for any help!

ps: Btw, it's an accell street billet distributor vac/mech advance p/n 52100

Great! Thanks for the help. Would it possible to line up the rotor tip and the reluctor tip with the distributor out of the car? Seems to me as long as they are aligned, it should work (dist. housing will be turned to time engine anyway). Thanks again!

Ok, i'm about to call myself a dumb ass twice in one day. The rotor mount plate and reluctor are attached. They haven't gone out of phase with each other. The only thing moving is where that whole assembly is pressed to the shaft. That prob explains why the car still ran and the timing could be reset... Looks like a couple spot welds will save the day...

Once again thanks to everyone who helped!!
