    trouble shooting

hey guys , my buddy been puting together a 84 camaro, when he bought it he bought the motor and car seperate, the problem is after about 8-10 minutes of running the idle dies down and it stopps running...sort of like running out of gas. we put on a new ignition module, a new coil he bought a new performer intake and 600 elde carb, we also tried a new fuel pump and see through fuel filter, the filter holds gas until it starts to miss and die downthen the fuel stops flowing through the filter. also right before it dies it pops through the exaust it sounds just like when you have a plug wire crossed, i checked the firing order over and over again ,im thinking a clog somewere and the only thing i didnt do was check fuel pressure, im not sure how need help

Sounds like a fuel filter problem to me. Change it out and see if that helps, if that isn't it, at least you have a new filter.

maybe the sock in the tank is plugged had taht before what i did was undo a line before the fuel pump pulled the gas cap and put a lot of compressed air thru it till it went puff. seriously dont recommend that though do it at your own risk

If the car sat for a while, the gas could have evaporated in the tank, enough to leave crud on the screen, or "sock" as mentioned. Blowing back through the line will clear it enough to run, but it should dissolve in fresh gas given time.

when i was 17 my dad told me to put my ear next to the filler tube to see if i could hear the air in the tank, that puff went right in my ear, i could smell and taste gasoline for a week....

but yeah, run compressed air through the lines, run the tank down low a little biut or drain it, and put a can of seafoam in the tank, then fill her up.... the seafoam should disolve all that crud stuck to the bottom and sides of the tank... i run a can through once a year on my cars, keeps the fuel system in better shape

It might be a heat problem. If it'll run for 8-10 minutes then die you might be getting a bit of vapor-lock in the fuel line.

Is the fuel line routed close to the exhaust? I was having a similar problem, but it was never enough to kill the engine (unless it was over 100 degrees out).

Testing a theory, I ran a water hose on the fuel line and mechanical pump. The clear filter never ran low, but if I turned off the water stream it would. Once enough heat built up the engine would start to stumble.

btw if that clear filter is glass i would replace it with a plastic clear one.... i've heard of the glass ones breaking and causing wonderful fires... i guess thats ok when you goto the old shop moto "It aint my car"
