Probably is a AMC 304CI motor for the CJ's. It could be a 360 but doubtful as almost all of the V8 CJ in 77 were 304's. hope that helps!

If I remember right, the 401's are stamped "401" on the front side of the block. If it is an original motor, it is probably the 304.

all AMC V8's had there CID stamped on the side of the block. could be an AMC 401 being a '77, or a 304 or a 360 also as they were all used in CJ's... but all you got to do is get under it and look at the side of the block.. the numbers are large
