voltage regulator with new alternator??
hey guys, im kinda new to understanding the whole electrical thing, so this is what im asking..
im turning a 51 F-1 pickup into a daily driver with a 302 ect...ect....
it did have the old flathead with a generator on it, and a regulator mounted on the firewall,
the regulator has 4 wires, one is a ground that went to the generator, another says arm, field, and bat.
the battery wire goes inside the cab somewhere, i havent chased that one, but the other two went to the generator.
im updating to either a 3 wire or 1 wire?
the old alternator i have now has 3 plugs as well, one was the FLD, another, STA, and then a big 10 ga.
im used to chevy stuff.. hooker up to the battery!
i guess im just lost and wondering what wires go where?

thanks ntfday, that really helped.
i went off of the second picture there being it fit more with what i already had.. and heres what i ended up with.
truely sorry for my crappy paint skills.
first picture is the alternator, second shows the regulator, third shows the "junction box" that was already there that i tapped into. the red wire on the "bat" side, goes right to the solenoid, the red wire on the other side goes right into the fuse box in the cab
anyone know how to downsize pictures?Last edited by tim_bo16; 10-28-2009 at 01:35 PM. Reason: dont know how to downsize pictures???
