maintenance/tune advice
ok ive had what is really my first decent motor running in a car 4 sum time...its a 4-bolt 327 with all roller gear.
its got a rochester Q-jet mech fuel pump gilmur pully setup etc
it ran really well for along time but saying that i didnt give it the attention or maintenance it deserved.
now its out on a engine stand & i want to do some general work on it.
Im becoming familiar with the sbc che family of engines...& it really wont take much of a tune to get it ticking along nicely again.
beside carby tuning & new oil filter etc some suggestions would be good.
cheers

Good Example everyone, SEE HERE 2nd day no hits.
Welcome to the site axed29. I am not sure I would have pulled the motor for that just yet. I personally am not a fan of the Q-jet, I would start there, rebuilding one is scary if you have never cracked one open before, tread lightly there. Or if you can afford it upgrade to a Holley 600, or a Quick fuel 600. Change all filters, plugs, wires, dist cap, rotor, all basic tune up stuff. Without knowing exactly how crappy it was running thats all I can offer at this time. Maybe a senior member will step in also for some needed advice.. Also welcome aboard !Last edited by mooneye777; 07-30-2010 at 09:37 PM.

Gday mooneye. i pulled the motor out because engine paint was look beat up & its home is an steel model a coupe so in my eyes nothings to good & as far as removing engines from cars go, well its as easy as it gets...radiator & grille surround off-engine out.
Also im attending to & replacing all the bushes in the 4-bar front end aswell as numerous other things.
its a damn well built rod but its been on the road for near 15 years so now i have it its my time to attend to minor issues aswell as make the car my own.
I hear you on the q-jet...im not a fan...work well look like rubbish on an open engine car. ( coupe does not run bonnet)
im putting together a 3x2 manifold right now with a edelbrock inlet & 3 new UK produced stromberg 97s...not recod originals. on top of that im thinking of replacing the semi mild hot cam with something just over stock, i believe the 327 even with a stock cam will get up & go. ill add sum pix wen i make sum room in the shed.
thanks for the reply & the welcome.
cheers

Welcome Axed from the homeland over the pond, Go the Allblacks, didn't we kick butt yesterday (31/07/10),ha ha.. Back to serious business now that we have had a laugh over the rugby.. I have a Qjet carby on and unknown brand of semi hirise manifold that was on my T Bucket and I agree they aren't a pretty thing to look at and I had mine covered with a deep dish chrome air cleaner but don't right it off yet as one can get them to perform very well.
I still have the set up sitting on the shelf in the garage after fitting my 3x2 manifold and carby on my 350 and don't intend to sell it as it will go onto the next car. Ther are some excellent books on those carbies..I maybe a little crazy but it stops me going insane.
