motivation from inspiration
Whats the biggest motivation for YOU. For me. its the reward of accomplishment and to hear and feel that sixty eight fire right up and to know i did the work my self. this morning i came home from working grave and trouble shooted one of the birds wiring and got it to turn a few times. man the carb was dirty. Its getting spark, all the fluids are good, the wires are correct. i think i need more priemium. At first we had some kind of fire going on but we played with the roter and nothing after that. tomorrow i plan on taking off the holly carb to clean it out a little bit. maybe try the original 4300. my neighbor has a bad opinion with the the hollies. thanks for the motivation.

Hey Gerry;
Holley carbs are very good if you know how to work on them and the are very easy to rebuild if you need to.
How long has the car been sitting??? The gas today has alot of water in it because of the Ethanol.
If the car sits any amount of time the water goes to the bottom of the tank and is the first to be picked up.
So If the car has been sitting you may want to drain the tank and clean the carb out or fuel bowl out.
Drain the fuel line then put new fuel in it and try starting it. I just want thru this with my 72 corvette.
I know about the fuel because I hauled fuel to gas stations for the last 20 some years.
Also if you see a tanker in a gas station you could pull in and ask the driver if he has a old tube of water paste
you can have. Then take it home and smear a little past on a stick then stick it in the fuel you have.
If there is any water in your fuel the paste will change color.

Thanks. is fuel bowling it what it sounds like, soak it in a bowl of fuel? the car has been sitting since i got it a year ago. i fired it up for the fist time today.
i added a small piece of fuel line, replaced the fuel pump and gave it an oil change and i took off the carb and sprayed it with starter fluid all i had.
i think the tank was completely empty or very low. i figured i would add about four gallons of premium to dilute any water in the tank.
After all that i started it with in a few tries. i think the it had a quite a few vacuum leaks because it was idling high.
these cars do have a lot of vacuum lines from the w/s whipper to the concealed head lights.
techinspecter1 said these engines were built to run on leaded gas. the quality fuel they used to have back in the days wouldn't cause other things like this fuel we got.
after that five minute run with me on the accelerator by the carb it ran by its self for a few minutes then i decided to accelerate it some more and then finally died.
and cold get it to run again. flooded maybe. sorry for my typing. worked grave last night.
