    Question Header Recomendations

     



    I have a 350 with 3991492 heads. I put the shorty style headers on it when I rebuilt it. I bought a new dual exhaust and had to piece the exhaust together from collectors to the headers.
    This sucked. So I'm going to replace these headers with full length headers so I can just bolt them up to the exhaust. Any recomendations ? Does anyone run the copper header gaskets ?

    header problem

     



    u should remove the shorty headers cuz basically all ur doin is forcin the exhaust through the shorties and then to the pipes........ umm if u do remove them it is best to get the long tube headers because u will get more torque and a lil' bit more top end...... and the copper header gaskets are the best to us because basically once u put them on and torque them on they never leak..... ive had a set on my 85 k-20 pickup that i drive to school and do a lot of muddin in for about 8 months now and so far i havent had ny leaks.............. ohh and another way to save urself some bucks is to run reducer cones instead of collectors cuz u will never have to replace the gaskets down there if u juat have the cones........... well im only 16 but i hope i could help u figure out ur header problems......

    if you can find a set of tri Y headders for your truck, you will love them. they are a 4-2-1 type headder, and keep the bottom end and midrange torque, great for the street. LMC has a set of true longtube headders to fit the '67-'72 GM 1/2 tons, 2 and 4whl drive. a copper headder gasket is a good gasket but, factory exhaust manifold gaskets work just as well for sealing. many use them with headders.

    I second that recomendation we put the tri-y's on my boys 70 SB c10 350 with the 3/8 flange we also used the copper gaskets. did not have leaking problems and had acces to the plugs. Ed ke6bnl

    You should use good quality headers.Cheap ones or used are likely to have some warpage,and not seal correctly.Hooker headers also sells some for your truck also for about 120 dollars.These hang below the frame.I have not seen any full length that do not.I have seen some 3/4 length that stay within the frame though.
