A deep heart felt thanks goes out to all who are on "eternal patrol" all who have gave their lives so that we could live in freedom and pursue the hobbie that we all love so much. And as you work on your hotrod today, take a moment to say thanks to all the service men and women who will never again be able to work on their own hot rods. It's impossible to answer a question without data. I assume you mean initial (at idle) timing. Where is it set now? Where do you intend to set it?
Example: It's set at 16 degrees BTDC, I intend to advance (or retard) it 2 degrees.

If you were advancing your timing you would be before top dead center.

back on topic:
we need some stats on your engine, such as cam, carb, compression, what type of ignition you have, all those sorts of things... cause advancing will only help under certain circumstances.... other times it will actually crap out your performance...
