running rich?
Ok guys my 327 is running rich so i thought tonight i pulled all the plugs out one at a time after running the engine and up to temp. all the plugs look the same, don't smell like its running rich or don't look like it eather they looked like brown and gray, from what i have been told that means its running good, a little on the hot side. now when your sitting at a light i can smell gas thats not being burned all the way. i was wondering if my distribeter isn't running right i mean its making enought spart to run the engine but its not hot enough to burn all the fuel. am i thinking right or am i way off. if its not hot enough i was going to get an msd box and new cole and wires and plugs. tell me what you think.
Thanx guys

if the plugs are tan or white ( not black ) then you're running OK ... the gas smell could be a leaking gas line (anywhere along the line) ..... check where the lines come out of the tank ( along the frame rail at the back and at all attachment clip points )

Is this a stock motor you are talking about. Your cam can cause what you are smelling, if your plugs look good then I wouldn't worry too much about it.

no this motor is far from stock. its bored .060 over, .010 on the crank, 4 stage over rv. cam, (not a really big cam) about 10.75 to 1 comp. 350 vette cast heads big valve, ummm lets see 4 1/2 in lift on the carb.
so a little about stock. if its the cam causing this then i wont worry, but when i change my oil it smell gas, the oil is still good, i mean it looks great and feels great.

is your needle and seat leaking and dumping fuel right out the squirters and not vaporizing????"IT'S 106 MILES TO CHICAGO , WE GOT A FULL TANK OF GAS , HALF A PACK OF CIGARETTES, ITS DARK, AND WERE WEARING SUNGLASSES"

rich 327
Maybe the air bleeds are plugged in your Holley this would make the carb run pretty rich. Just a shot in the dark, but I just cleaned the one's in mine and it made a big difference.
