    cant get the timing set....

hello, i 'm trying to set my timing on a 89 chevy pick up. i put a 400 small block chevy motor with the tbi (efi) and i have replaced the plugs, coil, wires, cap, distributor and it still won't fire off. im getting gas and the # 1 plug is firing. is the firing order the same for 350 and 400? also does it sound like it has jumped timing. any suggestions. thank you

It's a process of elimination. Start with two questions:

    1. Are you getting spark? If your timing light is flashing, you're getting spark.

    2. Are you getting fuel? Pull a plug and see if it's wet. Look down the throttle body and see if it's wet.

What you find will provide a clue to the next step.

If you have both fuel and spark, check the "set your timing thread" in ProZ's post. If not, start checking back down the spark or fuel path - whichever you're missing.

Is the TBI from the origional 350? if it is, you will need a CKP in order to get it to fire.
