    Hot Rod Hundred

    I realize that it is kind of late but the Cross Members CC is putting on the Hot Rod Hundred this Saturday June 14th. There are two groups;

one starting in Denton, TX North Texas – June 14, 2014 | Hot Rod Hundred

the other in Oklahoma City, OK Oklahoma City – June 14, 2014 | Hot Rod Hundred

The Hot Rod Hundred is designed to bring back something that has been missing for the last few decades…..driving. The HRH is a 100 mile long trek along the forgotten 2 lane highways. The event is geared at traditional hot rods and customs pre-1972.

Approx. every 20 miles we will have a stop to draw a card and let the group catch up. There will be 4 stops on the run and you will draw the last card at the final destination. The run will conclude at The Pecan Grove Picnic Area, Lake Murray State Park, Ardmore, OK. Bring some charcoal, a few burgers and don’t forget your family. Spend the day hanging out. Bring some red meat…grill out….be American.

This is a family friendly event, so all are welcome. Plan on spending the day in the park. There are tons of things to do and this is a no pressure event. Drive your hot rod or custom out and enjoy hanging out with other gear heads . Bench race, look at other guys cars, no schedules to keep, no pressure. Just enjoy yourself.

With the group from North Texas and Central Oklahoma ending up at the same place. This will give you a chance to see some cars and meet some hot rodders that don’t normally attend your local events.

    This is gonna be epic.

I must say I'm surprised by that comment.
Our Rod Clubs in NZ are, by and large, far more active in this respect than what you seem to infer.
Is this the norm for rodders in the States?

Since we put the '47 Ford on the road some ten or twelve years back we've covered better than 70,000 miles in it, and although there are some that would have covered less, there are many who would have covered far, far, more.

This month alone we have the options of three different runs to attend, one with Scenic City, another with Highway 45, and a third with TMMCC.

And this is nothing unusual for us, so yes; I am surprised.

johnboy, many events have turned into power parking events. Cars are brought out of the shop, driven to a parking lot and don't move until it is time to go home. It is then put back in the shop to stay until the next event and the whole process is repeated.

Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of guys that drive their cars. However, there are few events centered around actually driving and getting bugs in the grille.

    Crikey!
    That's a bit sad really.

What's the point of having a rod if you don't pull it out and play with it?

IMHO, trailer Queens are nice and I love to walk around them ohh'n and ahh'n but have never had the desire to own one. I like the "bugs in the grill comment" it pretty much describes the difference but you have to admire those that keep their ?rides? clean as a dinner plate. There's something about polishing the drive train that just wouldn't fit in my schedule. So I guess it's a different strokes/different folks thing and both have their "Own" kind of Passions.

It was a great time. Weather was a little sticky but all in all a very good day.

Yes indeed and what a nice variety also !!!! Don't know what "Crikey" means but if it's anything like "WOW" then I second JBs emotion. Thanks for the follow up and pics.

    "WOW'' is close enough Emmett!

Originally, two or three hundred years back, it was derived from the blasphemous 'Christ Almighty!' as an exclamation of amazement and surprise, but has long since lost its blasphemous connotation.

    (Not many people know that!)

It's commonly used right throughout Australia and New Zealand as an emphasis or exclamation to a following comment.
As in: "Crikey mate; but your missus is ugly! Oh! It's your dog? Well by crikey I would never have guessed it!"

(But you'd have to be both faster and bigger than the other bloke before you passed a comment like that . . . )
