Old Marais River Run - Ottawa, KS

Since plans changed, leaving me around home I'll be going down to one of the best regional car show/gatherings around this weekend, The Old Marais River run held in old Forest Park in Ottawa, KS. Expect something north of 1500 cars, trucks and bikes '72 and older with a cruise on Main Street Saturday and a much higher percentage of drivers as opposed to mega buck trailer queens. This year I'm staying down in Ottawa Friday & Saturday nights so I'll be there for the whole shebang. Mama thought I was going to be gone, so she's got a house full of girl friends doing a sleep over Saturday. Poor Bones won't know what's happening!

A rainy trip to Ottawa Friday afternoon, but an amazing day today! Crystal clear and mild temperatures through the day. They announced 2016 vehicles registered today, which set a new record which will likely increase a bit more tomorrow - generally a few Sunday registrations, even though it's a short day with the give aways done at 1pm to give people more daylight travel time.

Ran into Matt/Matthyj and his daughter, and got a look at his amazing '37 sedan. Beautiful work. Three teasers....

This was my first year at Ottawa, always drove a roadster and generally it was pretty cold or rainy to head over. Of all the shows/cruises I attend this ranks right up there, those that are within range are missing out if they don't attend, the facility is great, with plenty of food vendors. I always attend the Mid West NSRA show in Springfield and I have to say I favor Ottawa (though its even farther for me than Sprinfeld MO) for the main reason thats almost 2100 pre '72 vehicles unlike the NSRA's sliding 30 year rule so you are seeing "old cars" for once! It was great to see Roger there and chat with him briefly as well. Thanks for the kind words! Mathyj

The '37 looks very nice Matt and adore the rear end look. It got me wondering if the body manufacturer made a Sedan Delivery Model ? Although if one wished to spend the extra time, one could alter what you have to build a Sedan Delivery. I do like the exhaust exit finish you have too, very classy.

I maybe a little crazy but it stops me going insane.

Your not the first to comment on the wires! Fortunatly for me Taylor wire in nearby Grandview MO makes just about the best (and priciest) wires in the world, I custom ordered them for the hemi as nobody carried them, the custom order didn't cost any extra but at the cost of hemi wires it was still plenty high. As for the distributor cap I painted up 2 of them when I painted, I have always done that on motors I put in, nobody ever told me I couldn't so I have!
Whiplash, originally my windows where not cut out, they leave it for you to do, but I needed the kiddo's to be able to see out, they do make a delivery also that I really liked (but had the kiddos) they have a dealer in Australia called Radrides.
The exhaust came to me sitting behind a C5 corvette at the stoplight, I couldn't let it hang down since the car was really low anyway, aluminum trim was bandsawed from aluminum plate and rounded. Oh forgot to tell everyone my favorite part of my exhaust (they look crooked in the pics) the center two are dummys, they are on a bogus plate resembling a muffler thats slid into a reciver hitch to eventually pull a custom trailer, once again it sets so low without doing a "trick" I never could get a reciver hitch on the thing.
When I started the car 5 years ago everything was great erogonomically for the kids but the thing is so low it raises the floor in the rearend up in the rear so the rear seat can only be so low, I had it sloped at a 22 degree I believe which is quite a bit more than standard to gain headroom, and by the time I got it done my son is was almost 6' tall (at 13) and really has to slump to sit in the rear seat!

Brilliant! I would have never thought of painting the cap! I like it!
