    Rusted in King Pin

I hope the 600 people will know how to un-stick a rusted in king pin on my 850. Got the spindle assembly off, pressed out the upper rubber suspension piece, removed the wedge piece that holds the king pin in the spindle, removed the grease covers. The pin seems to be really rusted on to the spindle. Been soaking it with PB Blaster for a week now. Been applying heat every so often with a butane tourch.

Any suggestions? I have a press, is there a special fixture that holds the assembly straight. I have an acetylene tourch, how much heat can I apply before runining the spindle's temper.

    Any info will help,
    Thanks, Wayne

The trucks at my job have king pins . When I was younger I would heat up the axle eye red hot and pound out the pins with a large punch and a sleadge hammer . But now we have a king pin press . Or you can remove the axle and use an arber press . You can do it the old way but its not for the old or weak at heart ! Dont slip with the punch or you may damage a spindle . They do sell king pin kit . But the bushings will need to be reamed or honed . Honing is the better way to set up the spindles . Just dont over hone them make them just a little snug . You want to be able to push the pin in by hand .But not have the pin fall through .
