Since you guys brought this up.............................
For the sake of we U.S. guys, some of the Canadian market stuff can become somewhat confusing. The '49-51 Meteors were based on body shell we are familiar with as Fords. The same years of Monarch were based on the Mercury shells. As pointed out, the grilles were the most distinguishing trim element, though there were some other trim differences.
As a side note, during the WWII years when Ford was planning for post war product lines, the body that eventually became the '49-51 Merc was originally slated to be the Ford. What a different custom world we might have today if the original plan had emerged!
