Flathead Valves
In my search for valves for an 8BA Flathead I've been looking to see if there are alternatives to the expensive aftermarket "Flathead" valves. I've heard talk of some using SBC Valves but they must be cutting them because of their length. Then of course you loose that hardened end. Anyway this is the info I have for stock Flathead valves
Head Diameter: 1.500"
Stem Diameter: 11/32"
Valve Length: 4.815"
It looks like Ford 2.3 L valves might be a good alternative. Here's the specs on them.
Head Diameter: 1.500" to 1.600" (exhaust valve)
Stem Diameter: 11/32"
Length: 4.800"
Tip Length: .400"
They are a bit shorter than stock but with adjustable lifters they should work. Manley and Ferrea both make high performance valves a bit cheaper than the "Flathead" Pro Flow valves that are available.
I'd like to hear information on other valves that could be used if you know of any.
Over and out,
AndrewB
