460 Mystery year and make & how to ID it?
This is my first posting to this forum and it's interesting to note that the folks here are very informed and cordial and maybe that's attritubal to the maturity (ahem) of rodders in general?
Anyway,,, Great forum !!!
I recently accquired a very solid '66 F-250 long bed with a 460 and c-6 installed that was in it when I bought it in Missouri. The guy that sold it said it was a Lincoln 460 (with an Edelbrock Al intake and a Carter Competition AFB carb),
The engine is running really ratty with bad idle and fuel fouling platinum plugs pretty quick (burnt valves?) and I haven't done a compression or leak down test yet. I could probably get away with just rebuilding the heads (haven't looked to see if they are DOVE heads) and throwing in a timing chain but I have decided to pull the engine, strip the body of wiring and trim and tow her to a local shop for a soda blast and then doing her body work and a polyurethane Competition Red paint... so....
How do I decipher what this engine's year and pedigree is????
I'm gonna dig out my old smelly Chilton that I used on my first rebuild in 1971 ("67 Ford Fairlane GTA 390 boy do I wish I still had that one) and find out where the numbers are stamped but any info on deciphering this engine's pedigree would really help me when it comes time to start ordering rebuild parts!
Thanx!
Dr Ron

It has been a while, but I think it's just above where the bellhousing mates to the back of the block.PLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.

ok the listings as is refered to on the site that tec listed will be found just above the starter on the passenger side. it is the revision code as to the changes from the first on that came off the line that you are going to be looking at. if you want the actual date and such of the engine you will have to look under the intake.even a good thing can be made better
