    Question Starting Problems

I have a 1975 Mercury Colony Park wagon. I put on a new timeing set & water pump, then I drove it around town for two hours no problem until I put the peddle to the floor. My 460 stopped. No loud noise or anythink. I found no fuel going to the carb ; so I replaced the fuel pump. Still the same problem, no gas to the carb & yes there is gas in the tank. What should I look for next?

Can you blow back into the tank at the fuel pump supply line? Sounds like crud in the tank stopping flow. Check for kinked fuel lines, too.

How is the fuel pump driven on a 460? Does it come off the cam or timing set some way? Did something slip or come loose when you romped it maybe?

Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

you should have an acentric ( spelling?) attached to the front of the camshaft i believe it is held on with the cam bolt and a dowel pin i'm not sure but it sounds to me as if you need to open her back up 'cause somethin in there is not right sorry for the bad news
even a good thing can be made better

"What should I look for next?"

Ummmm, maybe the eccentric and cam bolt in the oil pan?
Don't turn the motor over any more until you get the front cover off and fix this. The cam gear is probably hangin' on by the skin of its teeth.

By the way, the cam bolt gets a good dose of Loctite after cleaning all the lube off it.

Pull the pump and look in the hole, if the eccentric is there you'll see it. If not, you'll have to take 'er down again.
You guys are sharp, I'da never thought of that.

On the excentric that runs your fuel pump, the only thing that really turns that pully is a little metal tab the hooks into a slot on the front of your cam. If you pull your pump, you will see if the pully is in there yes, but you won't be able to tell if it is broken or not. I have just finished rebuilding a 460, and I went with a little more heavy duty excentric and fuel pump, the stock was just a little too cheesey for me. Don't know if your running a stock top end or not, but it warents taking a look. That front cover stinks to take out, but.....

But I would pull the pump before jumping to conclusions. It is possible your diaphram in that mechanical fuel pump just failed. And the pump is right easy to get to also.
