    Hello
What I know about Fords you could put in your ashtray. BUT you don't just put rockers in and tighten. Unless Ford had a better idea? You should get a manual on the engine there is a procedure for setting lifters be they hyd. or solid. They should be done in order and set to specks found in the manual or manufactures details. As far as the valley pan????? Sorry I don't know. I'm just trying to not let you get into trouble.

on stud rollers, the easiest way to get a decent street adjustment, is tighten the nut to where you can rock the rocker around at all, and then go another 3/4 turns.... theres a chance they'll want to loosen up on your a little bit, but you should use locking nuts anyways

That's OK as far as it goes. However, the crank (and thus the cam) has to be in exactly the right place when making this adjustment, or you're going to total out some valves . . . or worse.

Use the search function for "valve adjustment." You should find a lot of information.

Now, for shaft mounted rockers, there usually isn't any adjustment. They're just bolted in place.

the factory had 1.73 stamped stud mount. i just got 1.73 roller rockers with guide plates. they are the small compression chamber heads and have been ported. they doo have the lock allen nut on the inside. i was told by another person to tighten to zero lash and then a 1/2 turn. going to go without a valley pan since the wiend people said it was not needed.
    thanks for all the help.

one other question... did you get hardened pushrods? if you didn't, the guideplates will chew right through your pushrods and cause MAJOR problems

    1) You need 7/16" studs for the roller rockers, as the factory 7/16" positive stop rocker studs will not work with the aftermarket rockers.

    2) You need hardened pushrods to go with your guideplates. Further, depending on which brand rockers you have, the length of the pushrods needed will vary, in order to acheive proper rocker arm geometry.

    3) The rocker lash should be adjusted while the cam lobe for that rocker is on it's base circle. The less preload, the better...I usually go just a 1/4-turn past zero lash, but you may need more.

I like the valley pan, sure does keep a lot of that hot oil off the bottom of the intake!!!! Cooler air/fuel charge to the cylinder=hp & torque.....
