    429 Identification

I just bought a 429 with a C6 attached. It has a low rise 4bbl manifold. I haven't pulled the manifold or heads yet. How can I determine the year of the engine? The trans has an "88" on the bellhousing. This will be my first big block Ford project (going into a 1936 Ford 1 1/2 ton truck) Can anyone help me?
    Thanks.

    I've only built a couple 385 series (429-460) after my 427 days. It'll have
460 stamped on the front of the block, the block will have C in the ID if its
    a 60's ,C9---- =69. D1 =71 etc...D5, 75 and so on.69 thru 71 are the best
in stock form, about 360 HP and 480 ft lbs torque at 2800. The heads are
numbered the same. 69 thru 71 are the ones.don't use the CJ heads, not
good for torque. Too big. Good Luck

The head casting number is located on the OUTSIDE of the head, along the valve cover mounting rail and between the 3rd and 4th exhaust port. It is alphanumeric and will likely read C9VE-A or D0VE-C or D3VE-A2A, etc. Please let us know what this number is.

The block casting number is located on the side of the block, down low, behind the starter motor and reads vertically. It is alphanumeric and will likely read C9VE-B or D0VE-A or D1VE-A2B, D1VE-6015-AA, etc. Please let us know what this number is.

The actual date codes of these components (block and heads) are further inside the engine, but the numbers requested will tell the most improtant part of the story.
