    Stroked 460

Well I think I found my botom end for my 460 thats goin into my 65 Galaxy.

    Crank - scat 9000 4.300 stroke
    Rods - scat 4340 H-beam rods 6.800 long
Pistons - Custom Forged JE 4.390 bore
Rings - speed pro file fit
Bearings- clevite H rod and main bearings

That bottom end should put the 460 well over the 500 ci mark

Now anyone have any suggestions for a good solid topend for the stroker?

Dont know what is best for the ford since I have always built chevy with mostly edlebrock or brodix heads any suggestions would be great

Or just for streets I could go with a 440 bb for my ford

Big bucks...460 Ford Motorsport "Cobra Jet" heads

    Bucks...Edelbrock Performer RPM's

Low bucks...429 FoMoCo Thunderjet heads 1968-1971

The first two are alloy, saving weight is a good way to increase the "seat-of-your-pants" horsepower.

The last is a good day's scavenge in some wrecked suicide-door T-Birds.

Here's my two cents worth, I built a 514 ford about a year ago and I used the 429 ,1970 model heads , by the time I paid for the heads and had them rebuilt with stainless valve's ,new springs, retainer's ,guide plates, and screw in studs for the rocker arms , I spent a little over $1100. I think you could buy the aluminum heads for about the same or a little more and get more power and less weight!!!!

If this one is for the street, the Edelbrock heads work fine. With the new design aluminum heads on the market now, some of the older designs, such as the Allen Root CJ heads should be showing up at the swap meets for a reasonable price. Like fordfreak said though, by the time you get them rebuilt, you will have almost the price of new in the heads.

What mounts are you going to use to mount the 460 in the 65 galaxie as I have a 65 country squire that presently has a 390 but when it comes time to replace it I would like to use a 460. Jeff
