429 2bbl. Heads? Dove-C?
Just needing to know if a 429 from a 1971 mercury marque with a 2bbl. carb will have good heads. I know that it dose have screw in studs. I can pick it up along with a c-6 trans for $300.00. but dont know if it will be worth the effort and added expence, and how can i tell if the Heads are Dove heads? Thanks to any answers. Steve... I just found out that it has the DOVE-C heads, Are these the good heads? Please help if possible.Last edited by woffyparts; 01-24-2004 at 08:47 AM.

Woffyparts; Yes these engines are worth the money. The dove heads are the best big block produced by ford, and the 429's are getting rare. These engines were only put in about 3 differant cars,Fairlanes-Montegos-Mustangs. 1970 and 1971 were the best years for these motors, these are a thin wall cast so you can only bore them .030 over. There was also a 429 boss hemi which are also very rare, but any of these engine would be well worth the money. In 1970 thru 1971 the 2V came with 10.5 to1 compression and 320 hp, The 4V came with 11.3 to 1 compression and 375 hp. This is for both these years. Hope this helps.

I tried rubber isolators between the frame and pump, but it made little difference. I don't mind spinning the motor over to refill the carb(s), it allows time to build oil pressure, jmho..
