6-71 Blower Do you use a choke on blower motors? I have a linkage problem. Two people told me you dont run chokes on blowers. Randy

Hmmm... I can't remember ever seeing chokes on 6-71 carbs. I'm running two Holley 750 DP's that were set-up by Gary Dyer.. no chokes, inverted power valves etc. Starting the motor is accomplished by pressing down on the throttle ONE time...hit the starter & she comes to life without ever hearing the starter. This is the same at 100 degrees or below freezing. I admit that I'm not a carb guru, but IMO, I would think that seeking out people that know how to build/modify blower carbs would be good advice. If you run it lean one time..there could be some serious consequences.

M & M... I know that chokes are not required. Carter carbs (or clones) are probably more common on blower motors as Holley carbs generally require more modifications. BDS has a neat electronic fuel injection package available, but it comes with a steep price tag..about $5000 for everything. I'm sure there's someone else here that can give you much better info.. as I said, I'm not a carb guru.

    No Chokes...

I have ran a couple of multi carb set up in the past... Never ran chokes, and have been told that with multi carb set ups, chokes are not needed because of the richer fuel mixture... I don't know why that would be any different with or without a Blower...

Dyno Don, can you tell me more about inverted power valves? I'm in the middle of modifying a pair of Holley 1050 Dominators so that the power valves are manifold-referenced. They are on my 528" Hemi with an 8-71. I've never heard of inverted power valves...

Hi Dave, wish I could help, but the truth is I am not a carb guy. The Holleys were already set up by Gary Dyers when I bought the 55. Sounds like your elephant is going to be a force to be reckoned with. I'm seriously considering going to an 8-71 & building a 572 when I get the chassis sorted out. No substitute for cubic inches
