What kind of tach are you talking about, new, used, etc?

i have an external coil and the tach is a new summit tach w/ an internal shift light "Tach driver may be required for DIS ignition systems to work properly."

The green wire SHOULD go to the (-) side of the coil. That is the side that's got a green wire (usually) attached to it. It may feed back to the ICM or points.
