Engine to stuborn to turn off

Hello, My engine won't shut off after I take the key out. I was wondering if anybody knows the specs on the timing for a 428 FE? Or at least I think it is a 428, the only numbers I can read is the manifold C8VE 9425 B. I think this is a 1968 T-bid engine, by the way did this engine come witht the c4 or c6 tansmision? Does anybody know the factory specs on the power this engine produced? Thanks in advance for the info, and knowledge I well recieve.

If ya mean it diesels when ya shut it off its simply idleing to fast, lotsa cars use a kicker solenoid on the carb linkage, you adjust your idle speed with this and when ya turn the key off the solenoid closes thus closing the butterflys completely.

Them dang ford solenoids will keep the starter engaged if your battery gets too low. My sisters Lincoln 462 did it untill I changed it out.

Well I think I should still check the timing on it, but I don't know what are the factory specks on the timing. When I got the car it came with a carter carburetor, do you guys think I still have a solenoid problem?

A vacuum leak can worsen the problem as well.

If the car is dieseling after you shut it off, check the idle solenoid on the carb.... Like Hworrell said, this is what causes the butterlies in the carb to close completely.

Incorrect timing can't cause an engine to deisel after turning off the ignition.
