427 vs. 460
Hello fellow Ford freaks - My current Ford Project is a 1965 Galaxie 500 Convertible with a 390 and the big four speed. Im having a problem deciding on the engine I want to put in it. Everyone knows about the 427 for its power and torque. However theres a huge price tag that goes along with choosing q 427 and building it. My question to you in the know is Can I build a 460 to have the same feel and performance as the ole' 427. I see Pre 70 Performance rebuilt 460's going for really affordable bucks. Your input is appreciated....Martin

I am by no stretch a Ford expert, but here are questions that come to mind. Will the engine sit on the FE mounts? Can you buy headers for that chassis?

Love this Guy
The Tech Inspector KNOWS his stuff. Really appreciate the info on my FE series Galaxie.
I just want to ask another question. I see the Disc brake conversion kits people sell on ebay or on the net for this car seem to be limited to the 11 inch rotors. My GTP has Brembos 4 piston 13 inch rotors. I bought them at a wrecking yard and only paid $600. - they cost $3200. New, Wow is right. But the car stops on a dime... I upgraded my 99 Cobra vert to Raybestos Brute stops slotted and drilled all four corners and the stopping prowess is fricking phonominal.
I love a fast car but I love a fast car that stops as well Hehehehehehe!
Do you have any information as to the largest AFFORDABLE disk brakes that I can put on this 1965 Galaxie and what car did they orignally reside on. Thanks
As far as the gent asking about the motor mounts and engine placement. All the Motors we are talking about are FE 352, 390, 428, 427 for the 65. Not sure if the FE 429 and 460 are the same block configuration. I think they are .Martin

you can save some of your pocket change by useing the fe motor mounts mounted diagonally to the block of the 460 and it will sit right in the fe frame mounts if you are useing manifolds you will have to trim the upper corner of the mount to clear them. i also cut the stud off the mount drill all the way through and run a grade 8 bolt through and tack weld it in place this will assure that you will not rip it looseeven a good thing can be made better
never get angery because you lost be grateful you were able to try
