410
now, i understand that mercury had an engine called a 410. i also know that it's just a 390 with a 428 crank that is externally balanced with flywheel and the harmonic balancer. i just want to know which vehicle that mercury offered these engines in. i also heard that ford put left over 410's in their trucks instead of 390's. if someone could tell me where i could find one of these i would truly appreciate it.

The ones in trucks are hard to find, they are identified as 390's on the build sheets. I've seen quite a few of them cause guys fits when they go to overhaul their "390" and the parts don't fit!

I've got a 410 out in the shop, but it's bored .060 over to be nearly a 428. It ran well, and did use the 1U crankshaft found in the 428 engine. This one had the C8AE-H heads, ID'd as either 390 GT or 428 depending on who you talk to. Big valves - close to the C8OE-N heads that are on the car now. Also had a "S" code 390GT intake, and the free-flow 390GT exhaust manifolds when I pulled it from the Shelby.
I'd offer to sell the thing, just to get it out of my garage, but shipping from California would be brutal!Tim -

Many years ago, I pulled a couple of them from Mercury Montclairs, don't ask me the year!!! Both of the ones I found were in the Merc's with the electric roll down rear window.... Maybe '64???? Hopefully someone who still has an active memory will come along and verify the year!!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Hey Dave. The car that you pulled the 410 out of was probably a 1966 or 1967 as they were the only two years that the 410 was used in the Mercury cars. I have a 410 that I just pulled out of a Mercury Park Lane. I was going to bore it out to be equivalent to the 427 or 428 but wasn't sure how thick the remaining wall would be. Any help on whether I could do this or not would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
