390 Exhaust flanges....
Hey guys,
My 1967 Ranchero has a non GT 390 engine. I purchased some Hooker Super Competition headers, part 6113-1HKR. I have read that these will fit non-gt heads and I have read that these will only fit GT heads . Before I unbolt those manifolds, what do you guys think - will those headers even work? And if not, what headers are even available for a non-gt 390 67 Ranchero? I can't imagine why Hooker would make these headers specifically for a much rarer head.
Thanks guys

It's the bolt pattern not so much the heads. Depending on what exaust bolt pattern your heads have will determine whether or not they will work. 8, 14 and 16 bolt exaust patterns are common to the FE heads. If your heads have the bosses cast but no hole you can drill and tap them.

isnt the difference with the exhuast flanges is that only the GT motors in the mustangs had the higher number of holes so the would be able to be removed in the car?? i could be wrong about this but i thought that was the only reason why there were different bolt patterns1948 Ford F1: 12.99 @104 *New Best*

Had to do with bolt access, yes. Mustangs, Cougars, and Fairlanes (and Merc equivalent) used these to clear shock towers and so on. I checked with Carroll Shelby Enterprises for the aluminum heads to put on my 428CJ, and was told they'd have to weld bosses to drill for the "side" bolts needed to clear the Mustang. That's the big difference with the GT and CJ heads - 14 and 16 bolt patterns for the exhaust manifolds.Tim -
