Whats a 1968 428-SCJ Worth?
Hi there everyone, I´m back.
The Galaxie has been sold and a 1959 Thunderbird has been bought, Yesterday actually. I was told that the engine was a 428, So i started looking at the numbers today.
Here´s an update on numbers, It´s a 1969 Engine, not 68, And looks to be a CJ, Sorry for the missunderstandning earlier.
Block is dated "9 J", As it´s still in the car, I cant get any other numbers out yet accept for an "E" stamped on the bottom.
The crank has "1UB" casted into it, But on another place there´s "IU" stamped into it!?
The rods say C6AE-E OR C6AE-D.
Distrubutor is an Autolite, with numbers DCTF - 121127 L , 0017, Vaccuum advance.
Heads say C80E - 6090 N, Dates are 9M18 and 0A6.
Intake C80E - 9425-C. (Says 9029 Under the Castnr, By the clock) Date?
Valvecovers are C9ZE 6583C. Including original PCV rubber, No rivets, It´s screws.
Carb is a Holley, says 33102 (Has more numbers, could not pull all now).
Aircleaner looks to be original.
Oilpan has a different shape than the last FE i had, A 63 390", Looks original.
Will have more numbers when the package is out of the car.. Just drove her in to the garage this friday, Engine is running and does not make strange noises.
The exhaust manifolds are a pair of beasts, I have pictures, will post later.
So, anyone?Last edited by AndersnsGalaxie; 09-09-2006 at 08:38 AM.

Is it going to be a coffee table?? Just kidding... I think your the guy who had a cracked SCJ block and was going to make a table out of??
Anyway...the link 37FordCoupe posted is a very good one to research from.
The 9J you see on the block is part of the date code. It's a 69/Sept casting. you should see another number or two after the "J". this is the day of the month the block was cast. The IUB crank is a CJ crank. The C6-E rods are capscrew LeMans rods used in the SCJ and 427. The heads and intake are CJ items. Valvecovers seem to be correct. Off the top of my head I can't say if the dizzy and carb are CJ items but the CJ website posted will tell you much more.

Hi there again!
Oh yes, It´s the tableman.
The engine has been sold, it went for about 6000$ a couple of days ago, I gave the buyer the tableblock aswell in the deal as it was only in my way in the garage haha..
So now i´m building a basic 352 for my Thunderbird instead, This time i´m going for a cruiser-car instead.
Anyone out there who has a tripower setup for a FE perhaps!?Nascar!

I just sold a tripower last month. Try www.carlsfordparts.com Carl sells a 3x2 setup complete with re issused holleys from the origiinal castings. The intakes are oem as there no repops. I think Barry Grant has a smallblock 3x2 setup and pretty sure the carbs can be used on the FE if you want something different. I was reading about them recently but forget the exact details.
Good price for the SCJ! And with the coffee table such a deal!!

I´ll see what i´ll do this year, Maybe a new alujumjum intake will be enough now as i´m just about to head out the door here to go pick up a new set of seats and interior for my Thunderbird, that will be some $$ running out there..
I was happy with the 6000$ as i payed 9800$ for the car.. The new 352 cost me 700$ or so, and just gets a new set of gaskets..Nascar!

To be honest I got very close to what Carls setups sell for so it was not much of a deal but I did very well on it. Plus the Tbirds use a flat intake vs the angled Galaxie version. The Bird engines sit level and the Gals have an angle. The Tbird 3x2's are pretty rare and close to double what the Galaxie setups go for. You could have angled spacers made tho for a Galaxie setup. Expensive possibly unless you know someone with a machine shop who could help. Ya good idea going with a nice aluminum 1x4 for now!!!

I've never run one on a TBird so not really sure. I have seen guys run the Tbird setups on Stangs and Galaxies with no problems. But that's the opposite situation LOL. So maybe?? The other problem might be hood clearance with a Gal unit on the Bird. Also with mine I had to use a oem height dizzy as there is not much clearance between the dizzy and aircleaner. Try this site www.hptrends.com maybe shoot him a email and see what he thinks. He also sells a great tech and rebuild download for the trips. The other thing might be the Tbird intake has vaccum ports in a different spot. I know there were 4 different 3x2 intakes made. 1 Tbird and 1 Galaxie and 2 over the counter service parts for the Galaxie. Sorry I could not offer better info.
