help with intake
i have a 65 galaxie with a 352......i know i know its a 352 why am i putting money into it. well my main reason is that i have a 427 block im building and i just went ahead and bought the performance parts that i will need for the 427 and just put them in the 352 so i would have something to drive. actually as bad as a combination as i have on the 352 it runs really strong haha. anyway i would like to get rid of the stock manifold i have. i was looking at the edelbrock performer and it looks like a stock one, there is also a performer rpm one, which one would be best for me i have a .530 lift cam with .230 duration @ .50 would the cheaper performer hurt any performance, im on a budget right now and $50 extra bucks is a lot for me, im on a 17 year olds budget haha i know i sound like a moron with all the mismatched parts but its all going on the 427 on the day i put it in the car, i just cant afford to buy 2 sets of parts right now and i need a car to driveLast edited by tyler; 09-12-2006 at 08:36 AM.

havent really thought about it, im looking for about 600hp out of the 427 thats why i think that the more expensive manifold will work better for the 427, do you have any head reccomnedations, right now im looking for a good 427 block to build, this 427 is gonna take me forever to build b/c of my budget, i looked at the blue thunder heads but they seem to have way to big of combustion chambers, i dont know if that will be to great for compressionHonda Motor= 1.6L

but right now its my daily driver with the 352, my other choice for motor is a 406 that i have laying around, the only problem is it only has 9:1 slugs and its been bored .040 over, kinda hard to find pistions for a 406 so i might just bore it out to accept chevy bb pistons or something im not sure yet, but it is a factory 3X2 motor so im kinda worried about tearing it upHonda Motor= 1.6L

Well I have no personal experience with the BT heads. But from what I've seen and read they are really nice heads. They do have a weird kind of raised port which can make some intake matches a pia. I also remember they need a custom rocker setup which was kinda pricey. I'd contact Barry R at www.survivalmotorsports.com He has run several sets on his engine masters entries with great results. Keith Craft also sells their version of the Edelbrock heads in a stage 1,2 and 3 CNC ported. Personally I'd look at your 406 to build. I've had 3 406's over the years and here's a little insight.... some of the 406 block castings have the crossbolt bosses. You just need a set of oem 427 caps or a set of pro-gram billet caps if no crossbolt bossesa are there. to crossbolt the block. also the 406's were solid lifter blocks with the oil pressure relief valve and enlarged oil passages like the 427. Last some 406 blocks were cast with 427 cyl wall cores. One of the 3 blocks i had did indeed have 427 cyl wall cores. The other 2 one had std 406 wall cores and one had one 406 wall core and one 427 wall core making it an oddball casting LOL.... but interesting!!! But I'd see what you have as you might already have a 427 block in the making. If the 406 just has std wall cores I'd build it anyway. They are great engines and pretty rare. With less than 1000 production 406 Galaxies made between 62.5 and 63.5 there are not many left. There are a few ways to go about building it that won't break the bank and give you a nice runner besides. So check the wallcores in that 406 block and see what you find. If you can snugly fit a 13/64" drill bit shank beween the cyls they are 406 wall cores. If you can fit a 7/64" drill bit we have a winner and possibly a 427 can be made coreshift permitting. FWIW the early blocks are the best and the 406 castings have been some of the best I've seen and used besides the 427's. With your current situation i think this would be the most cost effective way to go and you'd be very pleased with the end results. Plus the 3x2 is a way cool look to top off a FE.
BTW where is Gainesville? I'm working in Newnan Ga. Maybe we can get together and see what you have to work with if your close by? Let me know..
