Dave how does that new setup look to you? Was that from the guy who posted here??
Mike how about some details on your FE AOD setup? How much was that kit. These kits are based on the C4 AOD's right? What else is needed?

So what's the estimated price on everything needed? What computer stuff if any would be needed? This might be a nice upgrade instead of using my C6. At 70 mph w/a 24" tire and 3.00 gears I'm @ 2800 rpms. I want to swap in a better rear gear and the AOD would still allow about the same highway rpms more or less.

Not sure on all these questions, thats why I'm posting about it. As far as your rpms there 428, thats ridiculously high! I have an 83 grand marquise with 25" tires, an overdrive transmission, and ??? rear end gears and doing 70 im only at about 1750 rpms. Not sure what the gearing ratio on it is in the rear but she accelerates pretty well.
I think switching over to the overdrive would really help you alot. If you do your engine right you could still retain monstrous acceleration too.
Wish I could post pics ofthe kit and all but im in Iraq still. Go to google and search patc aod transmissions, they will have conversion stuff somewhere on the website"Caffeine is the glue that holds my macaroni picture together, nicotine is the magnet that holds it all up on the fridge."

Yea it does seem high but it has a C6 no overdrive. This is the first AT car I've had in years!! LOL so it's kinda werid for me too. But it all checks out on a race math calculator give or take a rpm or 2 for the 40 yr old tach. I'll google that site thanks!

1983 Grand Marquise w/ aod.
Overdrive gear is .67 give or take
1750 rpms or so ar 70 mph
25 inch stock factory tires, or whatevr ford was putting on 15 inch wheels.
Ok, figure this. Overdrive ratio .67, right? 33% right?
Add 33% to your engine rpms and you have your DRIVESHAFT speed, in this instance 1750 engine rpms x 30 (instead of 33 for simplicity)% OD = 2275..... This is how many rpms your crankshaft is doing.
take your 2800 rpms, you subtract 33% from that if you go with the OD transmission conversion kit. You would get 1875 or something in that ballpark as a new engine speed at 70 mph which means alot more throttle to play with. Think on that one for a little bit, soooooo (using a similar calk to yours)
Your NEW STATS would be: (Drum roll please)
At 2800 RPMS in OVERDRIVE you would effectively be lowering your 3.00 gears into 2.01 gears and instead of 70 or so be doing something very close to 100mph..... Or if you just want to cruise at 70 it woud be alot better for your engine wear and tear and nicer to the wallet at the as pump!
Hope this convinces you to go ahead withthe conversion, seems like an all around good idea no matter how you look at it. Might just need a more well built rear end to handle it is all."Caffeine is the glue that holds my macaroni picture together, nicotine is the magnet that holds it all up on the fridge."
