428 Oil Gusher Stopped-new Problem
Ok thanks for all the help and ideas. The rear plugs were leaking even after the jb weld. We used a longer plug with red loctite and it seemed to stop the big puddles. Now this 69 428 has a PCV on one side and a regular cheapy breather fill cap twist on type on the other valve cover. When I really get on it the dipstick blows out a few inches and it shoots off like old faithful. I assume the dipstick is just not the right one and it doesn't fit well so I have a nice one coming. Does anybody think we need to put anything elsd other than the cheap breatrher cap on the other side or remove the PCV and let it breath better? Problem is nobody makes that nice K & N filter in a twist in style.

On my 427, I had the same problem. I vented the valve cover via the breather into the rear of the manifold. This seems to help. I also put a new rubber grommet on the dipstick. Al

I was thinking about running a hose somewhere but didn't know where would be the best place. Or should I just get two PCV breather caps and have them both on lines for equal pressure?

AL did you just vent the one side and was it enough?

You could try equalizing side to side, that may work. I ran it from 1 side to the manifold. Freakin FEs are a full time job for oil leaks. My new build has a LS7, that should be a breath of fresh air.

I don't know whenI sell this if I will be reday for another FE for a while, like FE for Freakin Ever maybe. All old stuff is a pain. I kept sprouting leaks and when we finally after pulling the tranny 10 times, bellhousing etc we sealed it and now the dipstick is old faithful. Just one of those things but I can't bring myself to buy some new plastic car with a V-8.

Is the 428 in the red Mustang (your avatar)? Beautiful car! On my 427, I used a sealant made by Toyota instead of gaskets on the pan, intake manifold valley, etc. That stopped the leaks. You have to let it cure for 24 hours before running.

ha 73 what you need is kv tube from the valve cover to the air cleaner at w.o.t. there is no vacuum at the pcv you need some place for the crank case presure to go use an oil cap with about a 1/2 in hose nipple ford and chry products used them run it to the air cleaner inside of the filter element at w.o.t that is a low presure area the cap acts as a baffel good luck ted
