after more
i'm running a 360 in my 74 f250 i mostly use it for in a compitition street stock truck pull. however i still drive it on ocasion on the road. now i'm running a crane powermax cam which is a 204*/216* .501"/.533",dynomax headers and a holley 500 cfm two barrel (for class rules), on the stock two barrel intake (i understand that's a power robber). i have the intake off right now because you wonderful folks pointed me toward a faulty intake gasket. i'm running the stock heads for the truck (i've already locked up the shop or i'd have the #s for ya but i'd like to know if anyone could direct me to a better flowing set of heads they must be stock cast pieces for my class and what the numbers would be for me to look for. i appreciate all the help. and thank you to the folks that helped me to find my gasket problem.

Chappy: 1961 and 1962 there was a special 390 high performance head which was the same as the special 352 heads that were made. I don't think your going to have any luck finding the 352 head cause they were so rare, so you may want to try the 390 high performance head from 1961 and1962. You don't want to go with a 406 head or the 428 head because, you have to cut the cylinder bores for valve clearence. So the code number that you would want would be a C which is the decade, and this stands for the 60's. The next numbers you would want is 0 or 1 or 2. So it would start out like this C0 or C1 or C2. Now you have to make sure that these are 390 heads for a 406/427/428 the valve are to big and will not work. If you have any questions you should refer to the book
Ford Performance (the revised edition). This is the best book I can tell you to get and this will help you out with any other problems you may have, its only about $20.00. I hope this helps you some.

PS. The only difference is the special 390 heads is more compression or smaller chamber sizes in the head. One of the port sizes is a little bit higher, a 2.34 instead of a 1.93. So your gonna need to check your valve to piston clearence, especially with a larger cam shaft.Last edited by vara4; 01-17-2004 at 07:21 PM.

You need to go get that book because that will help you out alot with any other questions you might have. Now that the cylinders are bored out I'm not sure if you can put a bigger head than the 390, you may want to check it out with a machine shop, they'll have more information.

Do you know what year your engine is? So I can see how many CC's your stock heads are and what compression you started out with before you upped your compression.

PS. I'm not showing that they made a 360 in 1974 so what year is your engine?Last edited by vara4; 01-17-2004 at 07:55 PM.

YEAH THAT WOULD BE THE BEST THING BECAUSE IM NOT SURE WHAT ENGINE YOU HAVE THERE BUT IT ISNT A 76' 360. AT LEAST IT DIDNT START OUT AS A 360. THAT BOOK THAT I REFERED YOU TO HAS ALL KINDS OF PICTURES, TELLS YOU HOW TO IDENTIFY ALL OF YOUR PARTS,AND WHAT THEY ARE AS FAR AS HOW THEY LOOK, PLUS INTERCHANGABLE PARTS. YOUR TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS AND ANYTHING ELSE YOU NEED TO KNOW. WE DEFINATLEY NEED TO KNOW WHAT ENGINE YOU HAVE IN THAT TRUCK BEFORE YOU START BUYING STUFF FOR IT.

ok i do know that it is a 360 as far as what year i'm not possitive i just got through an entire rebuild with what the machine shop had ordered as a 74 360 forged aftermarket crank. i also had them balance everything before they sent it to me but as to what they actually sent me then is beyond me.even a good thing can be made better
