Solid Lifters in a 428
Question- Can I install solid lifters in a 428 without making any other modifications to the oiling system?

I happen to have a factory adjustable rocker set ----for sale, also a set of 428 police interceptor heads, maybe even the pushrods

i had forgotten all about the police interceptor motors .. i remember 35 years or so ago seeing 3 sets of those heads used as dead weights on a garden disc plow ..and the unusual tall valve covers laying in weeds all about ..

The old 352 police engines from the 50s had em too..I remember when hot rods were all home made.

Seems like on the hydralic motors used to tap and plug holes that fed
lifters. enlarge oil feed by filter and drill one bigger in rear of engine. It's
all covered in the FE books. A good investment. Most of my motors were
factory HP that came with solids.

Solid Lifters in a 428
Thanks for the info Guys! I'm going to use adjustable rocker arms anyway. I haven't decided on a cam yet. But I just wanted to be sure that I wouldn't have to block off the oil galleys if I went with solid lifters. I haven't found a solid lifter can yet that would be better for the street than a hydraulic.

Holman Moody still makes cams based on the original Ford grinds if there is something in paticular your looking for. Just be sure you follow the breakin instructions to the T with the right oil and additives.

I had a solid lifter 390 and it had way more snap than any other 390 I have ever driven since. I always liked solids. But I'm an old fart that likes old things.

Solid 428
I've just installed a solid roller in my 428. I very much does seem more responsive and freer(?). Seems like the oil runs much cooler also. Bill
