Stock pusrod length..
Anyone know the stock pushrod length in a 390 ford found in the '63 Mercury Monterey? Summit lists it at 9.157, but the book at the local O'reilly auto parts suggests 9.5 and larger.
I dont have a caliper to measure the stock ones, sorry. hoping someone on here knows or has a quick way to find out for sure.
thanks!

Thanks again!
I'm a work right now, but I'll try to use a tape measure tomorrow and find out. I guess I was thinking it would have been documented somewhere online.

Tech ; Hit the nail on the head, as he allways does.
There were several differant cams used in those.
There were also 3 differant size rocker stands that went
over the rocker studs. what year head? what valves?
what head gasget? Best just to follow Tech's instuctions.
They don't even tell pushrod lengths in my ford performance book!

I measured it with a regular tape mesure and it looks like 9 and 9.5/16ths = 9.59375 or ~ 9.594
FYI I also found this page which seems to confirm it should be 9.59:

thanks again guys...

huh?
Apologies if I'm wrong... but where did the "x5 = 312" come from?
I'm putting 9.5 and dividing by 16 and getting 0.59375
OR by following your process 1/16= (62.5 thousandths or 0.062.5) x (9.5) = 0.59375 + 9 = 9.594
The overall length measured was 9 and 9.5/16 (aka 9 and 19/32)
working on an old car may be new to me, but please dont tell me mathematics are failing me too!!! LOL!

I remeasured the pushrod excluding the ball ends and get just a smidge over the 9" mark.
I guess I should clarify: exactly how these should be measured? When I've ordered for my late-model cars, I've always included the complete length.

Ted, I think he was saying nine inches plus nine and one half sixteenths of an inch. Nine and a half sixteenths would be 0.59375", which when added to the nine inches, would be 9.59".
