    460 Stroker

I have a 1996 FI 460 out of an F350 in my 1988 Bronco that I would like to juice up. Can I put a 552 stroker kit in it? Do I have to modify the block to do-so? Will E6TE 460 heads bolt on to that block?

Does anyone have any good performance books that they would recommend that I read for the build-up I'm thinking of?

Sorry to have such generic questions but this is my first BBF build-up.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Sorry wrong section of the forum. I will put this in the right spot.

if you want performance go with a none efi engine a friend of mine tryed to hotrod a late model 460 truck engine it was a nightmare and it never ran any better than a 302 he had in the truck before that. go with a early block 1968-1977. i have a 69 ford galaxie which i bought new with 429/4-speed i put a can-am block (494) in it. if you check the internet you will find several people that offer a 814 cubic inch big block if you want to go nuts.

That block you have is great for a 4.5 stroke crank ,it has longer bores than the older blocks.A stroker crank bolts right into these ford blocks ,no clearancing required.
The cheapest route is a carb ,but fuel injection is possible ,it just costs more ,depends on your budgett and what you want the motor to do.

I believe those heads are fuel injected heads ,they will bolt on ,but then you have to use the fuel injected manifold,no aftermarkett carbed manifold for those heads ,which limits you to fuel injection or a adapter plate on that manifold for a carb.

It`s even possible to make the ford smallblock fuel injection stuff work on these engines ,it just requires custom computer tunning.

Tell us more about what your intended use of this motor is and what HP level you are looking at.
Its gunna take longer than u thought and its gunna cost more too(plan ahead!)

    shawnlee28,

I guess I should clarify, the Bronco runs and drives decent right now the way it is. I just have a higher expectation for horsepower than the 245 that the motor puts out stock. Can I get more HP with the FI, say 400?

Do you know of anyone who has made a stroker that retained the EFI? I'm just an old school carb guy and don't know much about EFI, but not so old that I can't learn new tricks.

    Thanks for your help.

I'll admit that I don't know diddly about EFI, but I would think you'd need a larger throttle body, larger injectors and more fuel pressure.

With that year engine ,it should be mass air,not speed density ,so you could install a larger cam, larger injectors.............but it may require some computer tune ups.......

I really don`t know all the ins and out for FI ......A stock fuel injection system can support close to 500 hp due to the pressure it runs at,you may need things like a aftermarkett fuel rail etc in some cases.

A good place for info that is 460 related is 460ford.com ,those guys are very exsperianced in these engines.....do some reading on thier website, most of what you are asking has already been covered there....use the search on that site for answers.

I wish I knew more to help you better on the FI stuff.

I can tell you a good rv cam and some headers would do wonders for your application, might not get 400 hp ,but the torque would go up and the headers would help it breath better.
Talk to one of the cam manufactures they will be able to tell you what cams are compatable with your application and needs.
